New dad, old dad: Getting hit with a 99 mph fastball

Working on a different sort of a project here.

You see. Sometimes live throws you a curve ball. Other times you get hit by the pitch. I think it's pretty safe to say I got hit by life's pitch this year.

I turned 42-years-old this year. That wasn't that big a deal. Let's face it. I'm old.

Two years ago on my 40th birthday, I decided I was going to become a runner. I just physically couldn't do it. My body physically broke down as I tried to give it a go.

This year, I decided to lose weight. It started in March when my work, Mercy Hospital Hot Springs, put together a Healthification Biggest Loser contest. I gave it a go for the six weeks and lost more than 20 pounds.

That was a good start and I was starting to feel better. Then I got hit with the fastball. My wife was pregnant.

My first thought: Wow. Second thought: I'm really old. Third thought: I'm going to be like 60 by the time this kid graduates. For about a week, my wife and I just looked at each other like how in the world did this happen? For the record, I'm well aware of how this happened. And it certainly changed the outlook for the summer.

I'm in the process of renaming this blog of sorts. Thinking it will likely end up Old Dad/NewDad. Might even throw in fat dad. I'm still working on it. I've lost nearly 50 pounds now and started training to run a 5k in November.

Hopefully, this blog will walk us down the path to the 5k, the birth of my newest daughter and all that life presents us.
