Week 4, Day 2 of Couch 2 5K

On Wednesday I reached Day 2 of Week 4 of Couch 2 5K as a prepare to run the Spa City 5k in November.

Day 2 of Week 4 is the same as Day 1 of Week 4. Five minute warmup walk, 3 minute run, 90 second walk, 5 minute run, 2.5-minute walk, 3 minute run, 90 second walk, 5 minute run, 5 minute walk.

I wasn't able to get it done right after work. I was watching my favorite baseball team get mismanaged. But after dropping the kids off at church, I gave it a go. Only this time, I took to the streets instead of an isolated area.

I've really been too embarrassed to run in a neighborhood. "Hey look at that fat guy trying to run." But it was dark and I really didn't have a choice. You know what. I liked it. It was pretty awesome. And it was a lot more fun than the repetitive going around and around the same oval.

I've had some recent issues with cramping and was concerned about this as well. But I got through it just fine. In fact, I was really motoring along at the end of the last five minute segment. Usain Bolt watch out. OK maybe Refridgerator Perry watch out.

It's a little difficult to know just how fast (or slow I was going). The run/walk combination of the C25K program doesn't give you a clean pace. But I went 3.64 kilometers, averaging 5.82 kph. Apparently at one point I was traveling at 7.61 kph. Must have been downhill.

My first kilometer went at 5.96 kph, the second at 6.28 kph and the third at 5.81 kph. I don't really know if that's good or bad. I just know that I ran (or jogged) for the entire 16 minutes of the program. And I felt great about it.

It's about five weeks until the 5k. I've still got a ways to go. But I'm proud of how far I've come.
