Changing first diapers in many, many years

While today wasn't quite as long a day as yesterday, it was still quite eventful. And I changed my first diapers in at least 11 years.

I spent the night at the hospital last night. I'm not sure that was the best decision. First, it was difficult to fall asleep on that chair/foldout bed in the room. But I piled every pillow I could find on top of it and make a makeshift mattress of sorts. As long as I didn't move, it wasn't horrible.

The problem was that they kept coming in to check on my wife. And at about 3:30 a.m., they turned the overhead lights on. I was exhausted but couldn't fall back asleep.

I only got to see Paisley for a couple of minutes before I had to leave. We had two cars at the hospital so I drove my car home, picked up Maddie and got a ride with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who had Anna Kate. That actually worked out pretty good and when we got to the room, Paisley was waiting for them.

This was the first time Maddie got to see her new sister Paisley. Maddie went to a New Year's Eve party the night before and then spent the night with a friend. But Maddie was really excited and looked really cute holding Paisley for the first time. Maddie and Anna Kate even fought over who was going to get to hold Paisley.

After lunch, I changed my first diaper in quite a long time. And I gave Paisley her bottle and burped her. Again, things I haven't done in a long, long time. But it was fun. And I was tired.

My wife took a little nap in the afternoon and I updated the Burn The Horse blog. Then I went back up to the room and held Paisley for quite a while. Another diaper change and bottle and Paisley took another short nap.

This time when she woke up, she had her eyes wide open, looking around as we talked to her. She is very cute. I said my goodbyes to both and headed home. I picked up Maddie and Anna Kate and we were all ready for bed as soon as we got home.

Tomorrow, we'll get up and head back to the hospital. Hopefully we'll bring my wife and Paisley home.
