When your baby is a newborn, pretty much every day is some sort of milestone in their life.
Today, Paisley is six-days-old. And today she went to her first doctor's appointment in Hot Springs. Choosing a pediatrician is a difficult thing to do when you're starting from scratch. I work at a hospital with a large system of doctors associated with it. And it's still difficult to choose.
This is likely the person your child is going to see most of their childhood. You want to find a good one. You want to find one you see eye-to-eye with.
My younger two kids don't go in Hot Springs. Maddie has gone in Bryant since she was first born. We fell in love with the work of Dr. Adele Holmes. We were sold on her when she checked up on Maddie in the hospital. And we were really sold when she found a hole in Maddie's heart. But she's retiring and doesn't see any new patients. Anna Kate doesn't go in Hot Springs because she is adopted and receives health care through a different system.
That meant we had to choose from scratch. Our system has several doctors who see kids. Some are straight pediatricians. Some are more family practice docs who see a lot of kids. I've had the chance to meet all of them through and they all have different personalities. Ultimately, we chose Dr. David Slay. Why? I like his personality. He has a good reputation. And he has triplets. I figure that not only has he seen everything at work, he's done everything at home. Taking care of one is tough. But three? No idea how you pull that off.
He was great at the visit. He checked Paisley out. But mostly he answered our questions. And he wasn't in a hurry to get us out of there. We were in there quite a while too. Most of our questions surrounded the gas issues. And he had some good advice; things we could try. That was helpful.
Paisley is doing great. Typically he sees newborns after one week and after two weeks. But he canceled the two-week visit. She's already regained to her birth weight. And there are seemingly no issues to be overly concerned with at this time.
So that's quite a relief. Paisley also got to take her first shopping outing today. Because of who her mom is, shopping will probably be a large part of her life. Today, she got to do Hobby Lobby and Sam's Club.
Tomorrow I go back to work. But just for one day to try and catch up everything I've missed in the past week.
