Gas a major pain for baby, parents

I have to say, Paisley is the best baby I've ever seen. She's absolutely the easiest baby to take care of. But there's an equalizer out there. Something that can make even the best baby difficult to manage.

Gas!!!

Oh my gosh. I forgot how difficult gas is to deal with.

I should have remembered. When Maddie was a newborn, she had colic. I remember those sleepless nights I spent sitting with her in front of a TV with static blaring because that was the only thing that would calm her.

So a couple of days after getting Paisley home, I started to get a little bit cocky. Thinking my perfect baby was never even going to cry. Then the gas hit. And it was bad. Really Bad. For at least 12 hours.

It came to a head about 7 p.m. Her stomach was noticeably bloated and she was crying. We tried several different things and just couldn't get it stopped. Finally, I headed to Walgreen's for some gas drops. It seemed to help. We also switched back to the disposable bottles of formula the hospital sent us home with.

She started to improve immediately, passing gas and even burping a bit. By the time we fed her around midnight, she seemed back to her normal self. She slept until 4:20 a.m. when I heard her cry. I made her a bottle and fed her. She took it really good. I changed her diaper and put her back to sleep. She slept until after 8 a.m.

That's pretty freaking awesome.

Today she's been perfect. But we did make one other change. Fearing that it might be the bottles we were using to feed her, I trekked to Walmart for new bottles. We tried them out this afternoon and evening. And presto. Much improved.

Hopefully tonight will be just as restful.

Tomorrow, she has her first doctor's appointment.
